Four student-athletes from the men's and women's cross country programs represented The University of Texas-Pan American on the 2006 NCAA Division I Independent All-Academic Cross Country Teams, which were released on Wednesday (Jan. 31).
The Lady Broncs were represented by three student-athletes on the Independent All-Academic Team in senior Ashley Perez (Falfurrias, TX/Falfurrias H.S.) and sophomores Sonya Rivera (Brownsville, TX/Hanna H.S.) and Vanessa Rodriguez (Harlingen, TX/Harlingen H.S.).
Rivera was one of seven female student-athletes among all NCAA Division I Independent runners to have posted a perfect 4.0 grade point average for her efforts as a biology major.
Perez has accumulated a 3.466 grade point average during her four-year career with the Lady Broncs in rehabilitative services while Rodriguez collected a 3.310 grade point average as a criminal justice major.
Alex Moncivais (Pharr, TX/Texas A&M-Kingsville) was the lone UTPA representative on the men's cross country team as the Bronc junior posted a 3.342 grade point average in criminal justice.
The 2006 NCAA Division I Independent All-Academic Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams were based on nominations that were accepted for student-athletes who had at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and had reached at least a sophomore athletic standing for their respective program.
