Head men's and women's golf coach Ofelia Lopez will look to lead her squad to a third straight National Minority Golf Championships this weekend in Port St. Lucie, FL, at the PGA Golf Club on the Ryder Course.
Lady season, the Broncs finished their final 18 holes in stellar fashion as the Valley's squad fired a 1-over-par 289 to bring back the title to South Texas with a tournament tally of 870 (286-295-289).
Armen Kirakossian (Portland, OR/Wilson H.S.) will look to improve on his fifth-place showing last season where he notched a score of 216 (69-73-74) while Shane Pearce (Carrollton, TX/Hebron H.S.) was tied for 11th overall with a score of 217 (71-75-71).
On the women's side, sophomore Rebecca De Leon (Mission, TX/Veterans Memorial H.S.) will look to finish in the top ten as she finished with a seventh-place showing with a 54-hole score of 238 (82-80-76) in 2007.
The Broncs will face off against 14 teams in Alabama A&M University, Alabama State University, Bethune Cookman University, Florida A&M University, Grambling State University, Hampton University, Jackson State, Savannah State, Southern University, South Carolina State, Texas Southern, and Winston Salem State.
The Broncs and Lady Broncs get set for the three-day PGA National Minority Championships with tee-time slated for Friday (May 9) in Port St. Lucie, FL, at the PGA Golf Club on the Ryder Course.
