Women's Golf Signs Kothny to NLI

May 5, 2008

UTPA head women's golf coach Ofelia Lopez announced that Sarah Kothny (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood H.S.) has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Lady Broncs in the 2008-09 academic campaign.

"Sarah is going to be a great addition to our women's golf team," said head women's golf coach Lopez. "She has a drive in her and a passion to be the best. She is going to fit in well with all the other girls and I know they are just as excited as she is for next year! I look forward to coaching Sarah and watching her improve over the next four years."

Kothny comes to the Rio Grande Valley from Kingwood High School where she was part of team that won four District 5A championships. The newly-signed Lady Bronc was a four-time regional qualifier, a state qualifier from 2006-07 and an individual district runner-up in 2007.

The future Lady Bronc collected fourth place laurels at the 5A State Championships and posted a 16th place finish at the Texas State Junior Championships in Austin, TX.

Kothny is the first Lady Bronc to sign with the women's golf team for the upcoming 2008-09 academic campaign.
