The University of Texas-Pan American women's golf team remained in contention for a team championship after the first round of the Battle at the Lake Invitational hosted by Oral Roberts University on Monday (Oct. 4).
After shooting a 333 at the conclusion of the first 18 holes, the Lady Broncs fired a 315 in the second round, which was the lowest second round score of the Invitational. Oral Roberts leads the 16-team tournament with a team score of 629 while McNeese State holds second place with a 645 and UTPA is close behind at 648.
Juniors Daniela Cortes (Aguascalientes, Mexico/Colegio Portugal) and Stefanie Maynard (Pflugerville, TX/Pflugerville H.S.) are both tied for sixth place after shooting a two-round score of 159 on the first day. They are both six shots off of the leader Toni Pyrum of Oral Roberts, who shot a 153 at the end of day one.
Junior Nikki Boychuk (Conroe, TX/Willis H.S.) is tied for 14th after shooting 162 (82-80) while sophomore Elizabeth Rodriguez (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood H.S.) remains tied for 29th with a 168 (86-82). Senior Crystal Frazier (Coolidge, TX/Wortham H.S.), playing in her first tournament in over a year, is tied for 69th after shooting a 183 (92-91).
The second round of the Battle at the Lake Invitational will conclude on Tuesday (Oct. 5).
