The University of Texas-Pan American women's basketball program announced the signing of Sherrell Davis (Memphis, TN/Germantown H.S.) to a National Letter of Intent and will join the Lady Broncs in the 2008 academic campaign.
"Sherrell is a tremendous addition to our Lady Bronc team in the late signing period," said head women's basketball coach DeAnn Craft. "Sherrell has an extended skills package for being so young. She has great offensive knowledge, is a superior rebounder, and has the ability to start the transition break immediately because of her open floor capabilities."
"She has been coached extremely well and we are excited to make her official! She compliments the early signing class and truly makes this the best Lady Bronc group of signees in our program's history," added Craft.
The newly-inked Lady Bronc led Germantown to a 23-7 overall record and District 15-3A runner ups. The Red Devils finished the 2007-08 campaign ranked 10th in state.
"Sherrell is the type of player that can help a team in so many ways," said Germantown High School coach Tommy Killough. "She can score, rebound, get a steal or block a shot at a crucial time. I think UTPA has discovered a true diamond in the rough. She will have a great career for the Lady Broncs."
In her senior season, Davis averaged 16.6 points per game and was third in Shelby-Metro in rebounds with 11.1. The 5-9 guard/forward finished her career at Germantown scoring more than 1,000 points.
Davis was a 15-3A all-district selection her junior and senior seasons. The newly-signed Lady Bronc was a two-time all-district tournament team selection, collected all-tournament team accolades at the Chuck Wade Tournament during her junior campaign and was named to the Dragon Fire All-Tournament Team as a senior.
"I'm very excited to go to UTPA next year," said Davis. "I look forward to the experience and I'm excited to be coached by Coach Craft."
Davis is the fifth Lady Bronc to added to the 2008-09 academic campaign. Davis joins Brittany Demery (Oklahoma, OK/Millwood H.S.), Epiphany Smith (Springdale, AR/Springdale Har-ber High School), LaChandra Johnson (Dickinson, TX/Dickinson H.S.), and Shavon Walker (Schertz, TX/ Clemens H.S.) as the newest members to be added to the UTPA women's basketball program.
