Newcomer Tamara Vaughn (Houston, TX/Blinn College) earned Independent Newcomer of the Week Honors for her efforts in the 2nd Annual Battle at the Border Tournament hosted by the University of Texas-Pan American.
Vaughn was honored in the opening week of the season as Independent Player of the Week, and joins teammate Aleeya Grigsby (Nacogdoches, TX/Nacogdoches H.S.) as a multiple award winner this season.
Vaughn was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts in the Battle at the Border Tournament, averaging 12 points per game, including 4-8 from behind the arc. The UTPA newcomer averaged four rebounds and three assists per game.
Against Texas State University, Vaughn scored 15 points on 6-of-9 from the field, including 3-of-3 from behind the arc while grabbing five rebounds in 32 minutes of play. She followed her 15-point performance with an nine-point night against Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Vaughn went 4-of-16 from the field while adding three rebounds, one steal, one block and two assists in a solid all-around performance against the South Texas foe.
Vaughn is the fourth different Lady Bronc to earn Independent Newcomer of the Week honors this season, joining LeKeisha Gray (Muskogee, OK/Butler County C.C.), Rose Esther Jean (Missouri City, TX/Hightower H.S.) and two-time winner Grigsby.
