Outdoor - The UTPA sophomore recorded 12 top-10 finishes during the outdoor track and field season... best finish came at the Tom Tellez Invitational where he placed first overall with a time of 22.20 in the 200-meter dash... finished second overall with a time of 10:86 at the Border Olympics in the 100-meter dash... placed third overall in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.85 at the Border Olympics... crossed the end line in second place at the Bobcat Open with a time of 22.31 in the 200-meter dash... notched second place laurels in the 200-meter dash at the ASU/David Noble Relays with a time of 21.82... finished third overall at the Bobcat Open with a time of 21.85 in the 200-meter dash... recorded a fourth-place showing at the Bobcat Open in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11:15... placed fifth overall in the 100-meter dash at the Tom Tellez Invitational with a time of 11:05... Outdoor - The UTPA newcomer recorded his best finish of the outdoor track and field season at the Border Olympics where he finished sixth overall with a time of 11.22 in the 100-meter dash... notched a season-best time of 11.01 in the 100-meter dash at the Texas Twilight en route to earning 11th-place honors... finished eighth overall at the Rice/Bayou Classic with a mark of 11.05 in the 100-meter dash... Indoor - Cantu broke a program record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.03 at the Houston Indoor Classic... finished 11th overall at the Wes Kittley Six-Way with a mark of 6.64 in the 55-meter dash.
Falfurrias High School
Cantu was an all-around standout for Falfurrias High School during his prep career... won the Texas 3A State Championship in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.73 as a senior... won the regional championship in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes that season... was a three-time regional qualifier in track and field... placed fourth in the 200-meter dash at the state championships with a time of 21.73 in his senior campaign... was a four-time All-District 31-3A and All-South Texas selection in basketball... holds the school record for most points in a game with 39... was a three-time All-District 31-3A selection on the football field as a receiver... holds the school record for most yards in a game with 213... was a three-time All-South Texas selection on the gridiron... earned 10 letters at Falfurrias - four in basketball, three in track and field and three in football.

Cantu is the son of Ruben and Adelaida Cantu... was born on Jan. 2, 1985... has two brothers and two sisters... majoring in kinesiology with a minor in health.
