During his prep career at Cesar E. Chavez High School, Cantu earned Most Valuable Player honors during his senior season in both tennis and swimming... finished second at the district championships during doubles' competition in his final season... was the runner-up in the 200-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke in the pool in his senior campaign... garnered three athletic letters - two in tennis and one in swimming... was a member of the Zina Garrison Tennis Academy... was a member of the National Honor Society.
