The University of Texas-Pan American Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Thursday (Jan. 17) that Tim McCabe Jr. has been hired as the assistant men's golf coach.
"I am excited to have Tim as my assistant and working with someone I know from Southern Mississippi where we both played collegiate golf and obtained our degrees," said head women's golf coach Ofelia Lopez. "I feel that Tim will bring a lot of knowledge, hard work and dedication to the men's program, so they can have a successful spring season."
"I am excited to be apart of the UTPA athletic family," said McCabe. "This is an exciting time in my career to come to UTPA and begin my coaching career. I am looking forward to help Coach Lopez with the men's golf program and continue her success that she has already brought to the UTPA Golf Program."
The newly-named UTPA assistant coach comes to the Rio Grande Valley from the University of Southern Mississippi, where he spent the year as head golf professional at the Great Southern Golf Club.
At Southern Mississippi, McCabe worked on the Student Athletic Advisory Committee where he was responsible for meeting and helping student-athletes around the country in their development in the collegiate environment while working with several community outreach programs.
While at Southern Mississippi, McCabe was a member of the men's golf program for two seasons. Prior to joining the Golden Eagles, the newly-signed assistant coach was a member of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Golf Team, where he won the NJCAA Division II Region XXXII individual title.
The newly-named UTPA assistant golf coach will assist in both the men's and women's golf programs. McCabe began his duties as assistant men's golf coach on January 14, 2008.
