The University of Texas-Pan American men's golf team finished sixth out of nine teams after the final round of the Stephen F. Austin Crown Classic in Lufkin, TX, on Tuesday (Oct. 11).
A.J. Hohn (Stockton, CA/Lodi H.S.) was the Broncs' top overall performer as he finished tied for 17th with a three-round total of 225 (71-73-81). He was two-under and listed fifth overall after the first two rounds of competition, but fired an 81 in the third round to drop in the rankings.
Freshman Jeff Hensley (Van Horn, TX/Van Horn H.S.) finished tied for 23rd after finishing with a total of 231, including shooting a team-low 78 on Tuesday. Sophomore Colin Norris (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Cochrane H.S.) moved up one spot from 31st to 30th on the second day after shooting a 79 in round three to finish at 234 (79-76-79).
Freshmen Kyle Tudi (Phoenix, AZ/Chaparral H.S.) and Alvaro Gonzalez (McAllen, TX/McAllen Memorial H.S.) each shot a 79 in the third round to finish with an identical total score of 241 (80-82-79) while tying for 40th.
Stephen F. Austin captured the overall team championship with a three-round total of 871 (288-284-299) while Sam Houston State (290-296-301-887), McNeese State (297-293-300-890), Rice University (299-291-313-903) and Missouri - Kansas City (301-308-304-913) rounded out the top five.
Brian Bohling of Sam Houston State outlasted Stephen F. Austin's Jeremy Ice by one stroke 215 to 216 to capture the overall individual championship.
The Broncs will be back in action on Oct. 22nd when UTPA travels to Palo Alto, CA, to compete in The Nelson Invitational hosted by Stanford University.
