The Broncs shot 295 in the third round and finished with a total score of 923 (312-316-295) en route to placing 13th out of 15 teams. For the second time this season, all five golfers fired scores in the 70s.
A.J. Hohn (Stockton, CA/Lodi H.S.) posted the best round of his career as the UTPA freshman fired a 70 to finish tied for 45th with a total score of 231 (79-82-70). Freshman Kyle Tudi (Phoenix, AZ/Chaparral H.S.) also placed 45th, shooting a 76 on day three of action to finish at 231 (76-79-76).
Sophomore Colin Norris (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Cochrane H.S.) was tied for 53rd with a score of 233 (77-78-78), and Jeff Hensley (Van Horn, TX/Van Horn H.S.) also shot a career-best 74 to finish tied for 57th with a score of 234 (80-80-74). Junior Craig Berger (Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada/Wetaskiwin Composite H.S.) finished in 66th-place with a total score of 238 (84-79-75).
"It was a very encouraging round today. We need to be built upon that and try to string three good rounds together because that is something that we have failed to do this season. This is a good step for us, and hopefully we can keep this momentum going for our next tournament," said head coach Drew Scott.
Florida Southern (872) won its home event for the third time in five tries, outlasting Georgia College and State (874) by two strokes while Kansas State (883), Missouri (884) and Rollins College (891) rounded out the top five.
Matt VanCleave of Kansas State and Ben Scott of Missouri both tied for the tournament championships, shooting an identical 212 for the event.
The Broncs will be back on the links on Mar. 1st at the Roadrunner Intercollegiate hosted by UT - San Antonio in San Antonio, TX.
