University of Texas-Pan American basketball players Zach Trader (LaPorte, TX/LaPorte H.S.) and Stacey Gooden (Houston, TX/J. Frank Dobie H.S.) received recognition as honorable mention selections to the Fourth Annual Division 1-AAA Athletics Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Teams on Wednesday (Apr. 12).
Trader, a sophomore forward, has a cumulative GPA of 3.443 in Criminal Justice and was also selected to the Division I Independent Men's Basketball All-Academic Team. Trader was one of four Bronc players to appear in all 31 games during the season, averaging 19.4 minutes per game primarily off the bench. He averaged 7.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, up from the 3.1 points and 2.1 rebounds he averaged during his freshman campaign.
Gooden has maintained a 4.0 grade point average while majoring in psychology at UTPA. In addition to this award, the senior forward was a repeat selection to the Division I Independent Women's Basketball All-Academic Team. Gooden appeared in all but one game this past season, starting nine of them, averaging 3.2 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Gooden finished her career in third on the career games played list with 109 games during her time at UTPA.
The Fourth Annual Scholar-Athlete Teams were selected by a special Review Committee of Division I-AAA athletics directors.
