Zach Trader (LaPorte, TX/LaPorte H.S.) and Ryan Buck (Harlingen, TX/ Harlingen South H.S.) represented The University of Texas-Pan American men's basketball team on the 2007 NCAA Division I Academic All-Independent, which was released on Monday (Mar. 3).
Trader is a three-time honoree and first earned the distinction during the 2005-06 season. The UTPA senior recorded a 3.55 cumulative grade point average as a criminal justice major during his collegiate career.
During the 2007-08 campaign, Trader helped the Broncs to a 18-13 record which was the best record in independent basketball. Trader finished his senior career averaging 13.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
Buck posted a 3.20 cumulative grade point average in mathematics and has earned Dean's List Second Honors, Bronc Pride 3.0 Club laurels, and selected to the UTPA Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each season with the Broncs.
The Academic All-Independent men's basketball team was selected by the Sports Information Director of Independent institutions. Nominations were accepted for student-athletes who had at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, had reached at least a sophomore athletic standing and was a starter or key reserve for each team
