Sophomore Zach Trader (LaPorte, TX/LaPorte H.S.) represented The University of Texas-Pan American men's basketball team on the 2005-06 Academic All-Independent Team, which was released on Wednesday (Mar. 1).
The UTPA forward posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.443 in criminal justice and has received a pair of selections to the Bronc Pride 3.0 Club during his collegiate career.
Trader has recorded career-highs in 17 statistical categories in his second season with the Broncs, including points (211), rebounds (106) and scoring average (7.0). He is only one of two players on the team to collected at least 200 points and 100 rebounds while seeing action in all 30 games this season. Trader recorded his first collegiate double-double (points-rebounds) against Texas A&M - Corpus Christi on Monday (Feb. 27) where he finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The Academic All-Independent men's basketball team was selected by the Sports Information Director of Independent institutions. Nominations were accepted for student-athletes who had at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, had reached at least a sophomore athletic standing and was a starter or key reserve for each team.
NCAA Division I Independent men's basketball team include UTPA, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, Utah Valley State, UC - Davis, IPFW, Longwood, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Savannah State and Northern Colorado.
