Broncs Sore Past Highlanders in 90-64 Victory

Feb. 9, 2008

The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs broke a two-game skid after recording a 90-64 victory over New Jersey Institute of Technology at the UTPA Fieldhouse on Saturday (Feb.9).

The Broncs improved their overall record to 15-13 while the Highlanders fell to 0-25 on the season.

"The difference was that we started to guard a little better [in the second half]," said head men's basketball coach Tom Schuberth. "We limited their touches and shots and definitely took care of the basketball a little better."

Four Broncs finished in double-figures including senior guard Paul Stoll who finished with a game-high 19 points on 3-of-4 shooting, 2-of-3 from three-point range, and 11-of-12 from the free throw line to go with six assists in 30 minutes of action.

The New Jersey team lost its 24th straight this season to prolong its losing streak to 28 games. Justin Garris and Nesho Milosovic each scored 13 to lead NJIT.

Texas-Pan American introduced and celebrated six graduating seniors before its next to last home game. The visiting team remained in its dressing room and the Broncs came out flat, trailing almost all the first half.

All six honorees had family escorts.

The Broncs will be back in action on Tuesday (Feb.12) at the UTPA Fieldhouse when they host Cal State-Bakersfield with game time slated for 7:05 p.m.
