Darren Johnson begins his first season as the graduate manager for the men's basketball program at The University of Texas-Pan American.
Johnson comes to UTPA after serving as the head student manager of the men's basketball team at the University of South Dakota since the 2002-03 season. During his tenure with the Coyotes, Johnson assisted in all practices while working with the players on an individual basis. He maintained all multimedia and basketball equipment as well as handled all office and managerial duties assigned by the head coach.
Prior to his stint with the Coyotes, Johnson was the assistant men's basketball coach of the London Towers Basketball Team in London, England. Johnson assisted with the recruiting of players and evaluated game and practice film while a member of the Towers' coaching staff. The England native also served as a scout for the team and coordinated the design, marketing, promotions and operations of all summer camps affiliated with the London Towers.
The UTPA graduate manager started his collegiate career as a student-athlete at Des Moines Area Community College where he was a starter during the 1999-00 season. Johnson was part of a squad that recorded a 26-4 record and was ranked as high as fourth in the nation that season.
Johnson earned his bachelor's degree in recreation with a minor in health from the University of South Dakota in 2006 and received his associate's degree in liberal arts from Des Moines Area Community College. Johnson is currently pursing his master's degree in kinesiology at The University of Texas-Pan American.
