UTSA 4, UTPA 1
The University of Texas-Pan American baseball program suffered a 4-1 setback against the UTSA Roadrunners today in game one of the double-header scheduled for today at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.
The Roadrunners got a head start on the Broncs by scoring two runs in the bottom of the third. Ryan Hutson and James Keithley were to bring in the runs for the Roadrunners.
Joey Mendoza was to be the only Bronc to put a run on the board in the top of the sixth. Mendoza scored on a single to right field by Tim Tefft.
The Roadrunners scored two more times before ending the first contest against the Broncs.
Joey Mendoza would finish the game 1-for-3 and a run for the Broncs.
James Keithley would finish on top for the Roadrunners going 2-for-4 and would add one run and one run-batted-in.
UTSA 16, UTPA 4
The University of Texas- Pan American received its second upset of the evening with a loss to the Roadrunners in a 16-4 setback.
The Roadrunners started off strong with five runs in the opening inning with Keithley, Palincsar, Rockett, Lockwood and Carpenter scoring off of Cody Cisper.
The Roadrunners would score once more before the Broncs would put a run up on the board.
Joe B. Gutierrez scored on a throwing error by the second baseman followed by Bonham Hough bringing in the second run of the night on a wild pitch.
The Roadrunners would go on a 10-run run before the Broncs would have a chance to get back up on the board.
To finish the night, catcher Nick Spears hit a homerun bringing in Ryan Vest making the final score 16-4.
Nick Spears would finish the night going 2-for-3 with one run, two RBI's and a homerun. Teammate Joe B. Gutierrez would finish 2-for-4 on the night adding a run with that as well.
James Keithley would finish on top again for the Roadrunners going 2-for-5 and three runs.
The Broncs will be back in action Thursday (Mar. 20) at Edinburg Baseball Stadium when they face Houston Baptist in a two-day series with first pitched slated for 6:00 p.m.
