University of Texas-Pan American pitcher Josh Wymer was named NCAA Division I Independent Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday (Feb. 12) for his efforts in the UTPA Citrus Tournament at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium against the University of Illinois - Chicago.
The UTPA freshman finished the weekend 1-0 for his performance against Illinois - Chicago in which he pitched eight shutout innings, improving his record to 2-0 on the season. Wymer allowed just four hits during his time on the mound, fanning two batters and allowing just one base on balls. Batters recorded a mere .167 batting average against the UTPA newcomer.
The Independent Pitcher of the Week award is voted on by Sports Information Directors at NCAA Division I Independent institutions.
