Pena and Schamel Earn Anheuser Busch/Ann LaMantia Endowed Scholarship

Ana Pena

May 10, 2006

UTPA seniors Ana Pena (McAllen, TX/Nikki Rowe H.S.) and Molly Schamel (Hector, NY/Yavapai College) were selected as recipients of the 2005-06 Anheuser Busch/Ann LaMantia Endowed Scholarships for the highest grade point average for UTPA female student-athletes.

Pena recorded one of her best seasons with the UTPA women's tennis program in 2004 where she was selected as an All-Independent Second Team selection in number-three singles as well as number-three doubles. She posted a record of 16-21 during that season in both lineups. Pena was selected as a 2004-05 UTPA Athletic Director's Honor Roll recipient as well as earning Dean's List First and Second Honors and Bronc Pride 3.0 Club laurels.

Schamel earned honorable mention All-Independent honors after playing an integral role in the Lady Broncs' 2004-05 historic season. She became only the second Lady Bronc women's basketball player to earn post-season All-Independent honors twice during her career. She started 21 of 27 games for the Lady Broncs, finishing with a team-high 48.2 percent from the field and second on the team in field goals made (81) and blocked shots (18). Schamel was a Bronc Pride 3.0 Club member in both semesters as well as earning UTPA Athletic Director's Honor Roll and Dean's List distinctions.

The pair of Pena and Schamel each earned a $3,000 scholarship courtesy of Anheuser Busch and L&F Distributors.
