UTPA Athletic Training Visitor's Guide

On behalf of the Sports Medicine team at The University of Texas-Pan American, we would like to welcome you to Edinburg, Texas and the greater Rio Grande Valley. We wish you an enjoyable and injury-free stay for your upcoming competition against our Broncs and/or Lady Broncs teams.

Directions to Main Athletic Training Room

Upon arrival to campus for your game, we recommend that visiting teams enter the Fieldhouse through the northwest entrance off the service drive from parking lot F (Click to See Campus Map). The Athletic Training Room is located just to your right as you enter the double doors to the Fieldhouse.

Access to the Athletic Training Room

The normal operation hours for the main Athletic Training Room are 8 am until 6 pm Monday thru Friday. During athletic events and competitions the Athletic Training Room is open two hours prior to the scheduled start, throughout the competition, and for post-competition treatments. Due to time constraints and availability of professional staff, an Athletic Trainer may not be present for visiting team practices. Therefore, please contact us in advance if you need assistance in scheduling times for treatments and rehabilitation prior to your team's practices.

Athletic Health Care Services

The University of Texas-Pan American employs three NATA Certified and Texas State Licensed Athletic Trainers. At least one Athletic Trainer will be available to assist you at all home UTPA competitions and events. All teams will have access to one of our Athletic Training facilities to provide care and treatments while visiting our campus. In addition, our students may be available to assist you and your team at our home events and tournaments. Therapeutic modalities are available for use by the visiting team's Certified and/or Texas State Licensed Athletic Trainer, or by a UTPA Athletic Trainer, and/or student with a written prescription from your team's physician or a note from the visiting team's Athletic Trainer.

Protocols for Traveling without an Athletic Trainer

In the event that your team will be traveling without a Certified and/or Texas State Licensed Athletic Trainer, it is important to send a written treatment protocol signed by an Athletic Trainer or team physician for those athletes requiring special treatment and attention. We will gladly provide your team with pre- and post-game services such as taping and treatments, however, we ask that you send all necessary supplies with your team.

If your team is not traveling with an Athletic Trainer it is important to contact us in advance so that we may provide the best care for your athletes.

  • The visiting team's Athletic Trainer should contact us at (956) 381-2233 or (956) 318-5393 at least 48 hours in advance of first scheduled practice or contest. You may also fax us at (956) 292-7200 in regards to treatments perimeters and contact information.
