Student-Athlete Code of Conduct
|
As a member of The University of Texas-Pan American and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, a student-athlete becomes a representative not only of his/her team, but also of the University. Student-athletes are expected to conduct themselves both on- and off-campus in a manner that brings credit to the University and to their team. Participation as a UTPA student-athlete is considered a privilege, not a right.
In addition to the UTPA Student Code of Conduct and the expectations of the Department of Athletics, student-athletes are subject to all rules and regulations that are required for individual participation on a specific varsity team. While those rules may be particular to each team, they are presented to the student-athlete by the coaching staff with the full support of Athletic Department administration.

Violations of the Student-Athlete Code of Conduct
|
Student-athletes must deport themselves in a manner consistent with the notion
of privilege.
Fair play and good sportsmanship are basic expectations in the pursuit of athletic excellence. Anything less will not be tolerated and will be possible grounds
for dismissal.
Respect for the intrinsic dignity and worth of all persons, regardless of race, ethnic origins, religious preference, or gender is to be acknowledged in the student-athlete's concrete actions. Any discriminating or harassing behavior will be summarily disciplined.
Physical abuse (including team members, opposing coaches, opposing players, fans, and officials), on or off the field of play, will result in immediate disciplinary
action and/or possible suspension or dismissal from athletic participation.
Illegal use or sale of controlled substances is prohibited. Disciplinary action, including suspension and/or dismissal from athletics, will result from any involvement with illegal drugs.
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics prohibits student-athletes from participating in athletic competition, practice, athletically related services while simultaneously withholding athletically related financial aid and athletic awards for any violations of local, state or University laws that may lead to arrest or conviction.
